Last year was the company's 50th Anniversary, and to celebrate Grant Macdonald’s exhibition at Goldsmiths Hall as one of the most influential silversmiths of his generation, we published a commemorative coffee table book of his career and some of our most prized masterworks.
It’s written for everyone who is a lover of fine silverware, complete with extensive photography of our landmark pieces and the stories of how they came to be made. It’s part biography, part documentary history of the silversmithing industry - and London’s art scene - from the swinging sixties through to modern day.
Amongst the highlights inside, we tell the story of how Grant Macdonald won the commission to make the Orb and Cross which now sits atop Dresden Cathedral, a gift from the United Kingdom to Germany on the anniversary of the devastating bombing of that city in World War.
The book also catalogues Grant’s huge influence on contemporary silver and gold design, from the evolution of his signature electro-texturing technique to the forms and shapes of contemporary designs that originated in London’s luxury art and design scene. And of course, no book about our work would be complete without a tour of our many commissions for palaces and royalty, sporting trophies, City of London Livery Companies, Lord Mayors, Sheriffs, ambassadors, visiting presidents and other London VIPs.
From the Gulf of Arabia to the Gulf of Mexico; from preserving ancient treasures from the Middle Ages to preserving habitats and species with environmental charity TUSK; and from Bond Street to James Bond (via our long relationship with Aston Martin) there is something for everyone who loves design, luxury, history and photography in this book.
