“As a global community, it is imperative that we act quickly and together to confront this crisis. And this will require innovation and collaboration around the world. It will require the use of renewable energy and new technologies. And it will give each of our nations the opportunity to build healthier communities and stronger economies.” Kamala Harris

On the 5th June, the world will come together to acknowledge World Environment Day, which this year will focus on the global effort to beat plastic pollution. This global platform has been growing for five decades, and now tens of millions of people are taking part, in addition to cities, companies and governments, to spotlight new solutions to the issues that are facing the world as we move forward together into the future.
At Grant Macdonald London, we’re doing everything we can to make sure our London workshop is as green as possible. That’s why we’ve been working with Planet Mark to embrace sustainability across everything we do, so we can contribute to slowing the climate crisis and build a brighter future for our planet.
Planet Mark has given us a certification which recognises our improvement and encourages action through their community of individuals and organisations who also want to make a difference. In order to receive this certification, an organisation must submit to a review by Planet Mark - and we were pleased to invite their team into our workshop, to measure our carbon and social data, to allow us to report our progress with confidence. Thanks to Planet Mark, we understand the impact our workshop is having on the planet, and we have been able to identify reductions that will help to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide we’re putting out into the atmosphere.
As a result of the conversations we’ve had with Planet Mark, our silversmithing workshop in the heart of London has an Environmental, Social and Governance strategy, helping us to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We’ve invested in an electric vehicle to deliver the masterpieces our craftsmen create, ensuring that our promise to produce the finest silver and gold objet d’art is matched by a promise to leave the planet better than we found it.
Our team of craftsmen are excited to get involved in any way they can - and with Planet Mark’s help, our team feel motivated to find ways to innovate and take ownership of solutions around our sustainability strategy, using the toolkits provided by Planet Mark to focus on the most important issues and plan for our long-term ambitions of approaching carbon zero.
This year, for the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day, everyone here at Grant Macdonald London is encouraging you to discover more about the threat of plastic pollution, which you can do by exploring the World Environment Day website, and by finding local events to take part in the celebrations.
