World Environment Day 2024

With World Environment Day approaching on June 5th, we’re reaffirming our dedication to conservation efforts across Africa. Through our longstanding partnership with TUSK, a pioneering charity supported by HRH The Prince of Wales, Grant Macdonald London has been actively contributing to the preservation of endangered species and their habitats. We’re committed to environmental sustainability, community development, and education initiatives - and this World Environmental Day, we’d like to really draw attention to the great work the teams at TUSK are doing.

TUSK x Grant Macdonald London

TUSK has been a dynamic force in conservation for 25 years, funding and initiating crucial programmes to address the pressing issues faced by African wildlife and communities. In alignment with these efforts, Grant Macdonald London has created the TUSK Collection, a series of painstakingly handcrafted silver sculptures representing some of Africa’s most iconic, endangered animals. Each piece in this collection is not only a testament to the artisanship of Grant Macdonald London’s master craftsmen, but also a symbol of our unwavering support of TUSK’s vital work.

Among the standout pieces in the TUSK collection is the exquisite ‘Punu Rii’, named after a city in Uganda which is home to one of the last remaining habitats of the Rothschild’s giraffe. This species is the most endangered giraffe in the world, with a population of fewer than 2,500 individuals. The ‘Punu Rii’ sculpture is a breathtaking representation of this majestic animal, crafted in sterling silver and finished with 24-carat gold plate and hand-painted lacquer spots, bringing the giraffe to life with stunning realism.

The Rothschild’s giraffe faces significant threats from habitat loss and poaching. TUSK’s conservation efforts have been instrumental in reinforcing these elegant creatures to parts of their former range in Kenya. Additionally, TUSK is actively working to restore the habitat and wildlife in Murchison Falls National Park, which houses a substantial population of around 900 Rothschild’s giraffes. In supporting these initiatives, we are doing everything we can to ensure the survival of this extraordinary species.

‘Punu Rii’ is a limited edition piece, with only 25 hand-engraved and painted sculptures available - each one of them is entirely unique. Each one is hallmarked by the London Assay Office, which has been testing the purity of metal since 1327, guaranteeing the highest quality and authenticity. Measuring 10cm in length and 19.5cm in height, the ‘Punu Rii’ stands as a lovely tribute to these endangered giants.

In line with our commitment to conservation, we donate 20% of the sale of each ‘Punu Rii’ sculpture - and any sculpture from our TUSK collection - to directly supporting TUSK’s essential work in protecting wildlife, combating poaching, and fostering sustainable community development across Africa.

The TUSK Collection was created not only to capture the beauty and grandeur of Africa’s wildlife, but also to serve a higher purpose. Each piece is a call to action, raising awareness about the critical need for conservation and the ongoing efforts to protect our endangered species. As we celebrate World Environment Day, Grant Macdonald London invites you to join in supporting these vital initiatives. By claiming a piece from our TUSK collection, you’re contributing to a legacy of preservation, ensuring that future generations can continue to marvel at the wonders of our world’s natural heritage.
