“I am still under the impression that there is nothing alive quite so beautiful as a horse.’’

Her Majesty The Queen has two birthdays, of course - but this Saturday, she will be joined by other members of the Royal Family at the spectacular Trooping the Colour parade which travels from Buckingham Palace to the Horseguards’ Parade via The Mall. Over 1400 parading soldiers and 200 horses will come together in a grand display of military precision and horsemanship in honour of The Queen’s birthday.
We have some experience with Royal gifts - for an example, see the Scroll Holder commissioned by the Goldsmiths’ Company and presented to Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark in 2002.
Queen Elizabeth II’s lifelong passion for horses is well-documented, and some of the most iconic images of Her Majesty are on horseback. Our craftsmen are very fond of these noble beasts as well, having turned technology and traditional craft skills to their delicate features many times over the years.
We wonder if The Queen might be rather fond of our very special, limited edition ‘Rearing Horse’, beautifully sculpted with hand chased fine sterling silver, mounted on an exquisite malachite stone base, chosen to set off the 24ct gold details perfectly.
Having designed and made pieces for many royal households around the world, to be recognised by one’s own Royal Family is something to be extremely proud of. Grant Macdonald was awarded the Royal Warrant as Silversmith and Goldsmith to the HRH Prince of Wales in 2015, and remains deeply honoured by the prestigious crest that sits above his name.
