For Burns Night: Paragon Tableware

“Some hae meat an canna eat, And some wad eat that want it; But we hae meat, and we can eat, And sae the Lord be thankit." The Selkirk Grace

The 25th January is just over the horizon, and Burns Night is the perfect excuse to gather your friends around a bustling table. There are few things that pair with haggis, neeps and tatties like a good whisky. This year, we’ve partnered with skilled craftspeople in Somerset to create a set of glasses that are perfect for enjoying your favourite drink as you exchange your toasts following the meal.

Traditionally, after the meal is finished and people reach for the post-prandials, various speeches are given at the Burns Night table. A speech is often given remembering an aspect of Burns’s life, or celebrating his poetry - it might include a recitation of one of his songs or poems, and will draw to a close with a toast to the Immortal Memory of Robert Burns - an ideal opportunity to raise one of our Paragon glasses, each of which has been blown into our own mould and then cut and polished by hand, the glass has then been frosted to give a modern twist to a classic look. So with any luck, they’ll be as immortal as Burns himself - assuming you take care of them, of course.

After the toast to Burns, your table might feature an Address to the Lassies, followed by a Reply to the Laddies. These short speeches are normally amusing and not offensive, but it never hurts to have a stiff drink within arms reach - and if you’re in need of a top up, our Paragon Bar Set features a solid crystal decanter with a sterling silver stopper, which makes a particularly handsome centrepiece. Fill it with your favourite tipple and sit back to enjoy the speeches.
