Flight Without Wings

"I create thee, Oh Arabian. To thy forelock, I bind Victory in battle. On thy back, I set a rich spoil and a Treasure in thy loins. I establish thee as one of the Glories of the Earth... I give thee flight without wings." This wonderful poetry, from the Bedouin creation stories, is just one of the many tales of how the legendary Arabian horse breed came into existence. It exemplifies these amazing creatures and their influence over the equestrian world perfectly. It also set us a unique challenge - how to capture that legacy in silver.

To do such a fine creature justice in our limited-edition series of silver Arabian horses, each piece is handmade and given a unique finish by a master craftsman who takes the entire piece from cast to customer. Each piece features a hand chased body, which offers depth and texture, capturing light and shadow to make our horse appear in motion. The proportions are studied in meticulous detail to ensure we honour the breed’s recognisable head shape, large flared nostrils and small ears, muscular neck, curved back, angular shoulders and a tail that stands up when they run.

In tribute to the traditions of its native lands, we have clothed our horse in a Bedouin saddle with Aghabani style knots to evoke the original silken decorations of traditional saddles. These fine details are accented in 24ct gold plating, which evokes the yellow colours found in traditional Arabian textiles.

Finally, we have set our fine stallion on a base of highly polished malachite stone, a beautifully detailed green mineral that for thousands of years has been coupled with hand worked silver in the jewellery of ancient Persia, Syria and the Arabian Gulf.

Our silver Arabian stallion really does capture the romance of its poetic place in Bedouin culture, as the living wind, the essence of flight… without wings.
