Art Basel and the Future of Collectibles: Crafting Bespoke Pieces for Art Enthusiasts

As the global art world converges on Switzerland for Art Basel 2025, the city of Basel will once again become a canvas for artistic innovation and cultural exchange. From the 19th to the 22nd June, the Messe Basel will host 289 leading international galleries, showcasing works across every medium - from early modernist pioneers to avant-garde digital creations.

Art Basel 2025 signals a profound shift in how collectors are engaging with the art world - not just acquiring works, but commissioning unique, enduring expressions of value. This aligns with a growing appetite for bespoke craftsmanship in the world of luxury - where art, design, and personal legacy intersect. For discerning collectors, art appreciation extends beyond the canvas and begins to bleed into the world of custom-crafted objects, designed to honour individual stories and cultural milestones.

At Grant Macdonald London, we’re seeing this shift as part of a broader renaissance in meaningful luxury. With over five decades of experience in precious metalwork, our workshop specialises in creating bespoke silver and gold pieces. From sculptural objets d’art to presentation pieces and legacy gifts, every commission begins with a conversation.

The process is entirely collaborative, with our clients working directly with our master craftsmen and designers. Initial sketches evolve into detailed CAD renderings, before we use a pioneering combination of cutting-edge technology and traditional silversmithing techniques to produce your one-of-a-kind piece.

Art Basel 2025 promises a bold and immersive experience, beginning with renowned German artist Katharina Grosse’s transformation of Messeplatz into a vivid, chromatic landscape - curated by Natalia Grabowska of London’s Serpentine. Inside, Unlimited, curated by Giovanni Carmine, will present 67 large-scale installations, while Parcours, overseen by Stefanie Hessler of New York’s Swiss Institute, will bring over 20 public artworks to life along Basel’s riverbanks and city streets. The Kabinett sector will showcase 24 focused presentations within booths, while the inaugural Art Basel Awards Summit honours 36 visionary medallists shaping contemporary art’s future.

With Art Basel launching its own curated retail venture - The Art Basel Shop - offering limited-edition objects that blend design, fashion, and fine art, it’s clear that the appetite for collectible design is only continuing to grow. But for many collectors, we anticipate that the next step stretches beyond acquisition - into the world of creation. A bespoke commission offers a deeper form of expression: one rooted in identity and cultural importance.

As the world gathers in Basel to celebrate artistic excellence and innovation, Grant Macdonald London stands ready to support collectors in bringing their own visions to life - transforming ideas into tangible works of art that will stand the test of time. For those inspired by Art Basel’s daring spirit and international scope, our doors are open. Let’s create something remarkable together.
